Security System Information
From the New York Times archives, an article on home security systems has a lot to offer Hiddenbrooke residents. New systems are wireless, so no drilling, running wires, etc involved and can be installed yourself if you desire. They use battery, wireless, and cellular technology and can bypass monitoring firms and notify the owner directly.
One system is sold by InGrid Home security. (www.ingridhome.com). Basic package is $199 includes an alarm console, a phone that doubles as the alarm control, and 3 window or door sensors. They use sticky tape and are powered by watch batteries. There are video options with an optional video camera, for $130, and $20/mo monitoring service.
LaserShield, another componay, focuses more on motion detectors. The starter kit is $200 at www.lasershield.net. It has a keychain remote and standard telephone connection for monitoring at $20/mo. You can control this system through a Web site. The lasershield Pro is $300 and has motion detector, control panel, two door or window sensors, and at extra charge a glass-break detector and wireless siren. also check out the LaserShield Cyclone cellular transmitter, which works even if phone lines are cut.
AT&T Wireless www.att.com is offering Remote Monitoring, sending cellular texts and e-mail messages to the homeowner if something is triggered. Basic kit is $299 and monitoring at $20/month. It has one door sensor, a system controller and a remote camera, with add-ons like temperature, motion, and water sensors (flooded basements).
Brinks Home Security can do a full service installation for about $200 basic, and Monitoring for $30/month.
There are also simple door/siren sensors for $12.00, to go on your outside garage door that has been used for kick-in robberies in Hiddenbrooke, available at Home Depot. Schlage lock has digital, wireless front door locks that can be locked/unlocked remotely. There are other high-security door locks at Lowe's and Home Depot for you to check out.
