HCA President's Message

February HCA Board Meeting Recap

Jim Hayes reported that the Golf Committee has had their first meeting about this year’s Charity Golf Tournament.  The date will be September 25th and the committee will be reaching out to those members who indicated on their applications that they are interested in helping.  The committee is also in need of additional major sponsors ($500-$800 commitment) and the HCA board agreed to assist in that effort.

Jaunie Federowicz, the membership chair reported that HCA applications have been mailed to everyone in Hiddenbrooke who is not already a member.  If you did not receive an application and you would like to become a member of the Hiddenbrooke Community Association, you may download one from our website, www.hiddenbrookeonline.org.  Just click on the HCA tab.  The membership committee is also looking into a pancake breakfast for HCA members.  This would be a fun and tasty family activity - more information will be coming in the next month or so.

Richard Matthews is trying to get a commitment from the Vallejo Fire Department as to when they plan to schedule the CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams) training.  The Fire Department requires a 20 person commitment to schedule this training and Richard will be posting an article about the program on our website in the near future.  Having a group of trained neighbors to help in an emergency (such as a big earthquake) would be invaluable.  Richard is also going to talk again to Vallejo’s traffic engineer to see if they will move forward on painting the speed limits on the streets of our community.  This will help in awareness of what the speed limits should be and may get drivers to slow down.

Sasha Jain has finished working with the web developers to establish our on-line HCA member’s roster.  Those who have indicated that they wish to participate should receive an email from Sasha in the near future.

The Welcome Committee, headed by Randy Foo worked with the Golf Club to organize a “Meet and Greet” on Friday night.  A number of newcomers took advantage of the special two-for-one dinner offer and were welcomed by many members of the HCA board, the welcome and membership committees and other members of the community.  What a nice introduction to Hiddenbrooke!

Our first HCA party will be on March 5th, and newcomers can get a special two-for-one rate for that event as well.  The theme is “Mardi Gras Madness” and we are planning an evening of southern hospitality.  We’ll have lots of festive food and drink, a wacky hat contest, and a drawing for a bottle of champagne for current HCA members.  Flyers are at J & O’s Deli and on-line:  http://www.hiddenbrookeonline.org/content/mardi-gras-party

Lastly, Jim Libien reported on the current state of the Hiddenbrooke Park.  A Memorandum of Understanding is being circulated between  the City, the School District and the Greater Vallejo Recreation District, and the various entities involved are working back and forth between themselves to solve the issues (of which there are many).  If the process starts to stall, the community may need to become actively engaged in the process.  He also noted that there will elections for Vallejo city council and Major in November and it would be good for Hiddenbrooke if the candidates are aware of us and our concerns.   The board decided that a “Meet the Candidates Night” would be a good way to accomplish this, and accordingly will be working to set that up.  The format and date are not yet determined, but if anyone is interested in working on this, please let me know.

Thank you,

Nancy Berke, HCA President
