HCA August President's Message

August President’s Report

These are some of the highlights of the August HCA Board meeting.

Update on Candidates Night, which is coming up on August 31st:

Invitation letters have been mailed to seven candidates.  As of Friday, August 12th, three more people have taken out nomination papers and they will be invited this week.  We hope that most, if not all, will come to our event.  Please put the date on your personal calendar as well, as this is an excellent opportunity to hear from all the candidates at the same time.  We are sponsoring appetizers at the club starting at 6:00 PM, and the actual forum will start at 7:00 PM.  Questions will be submitted by the moderator and a basket will be passing around the room for individuals to write down additional questions for the candidates.

HCA has agreed to sponsor the Hiddenbrooke Garage Sale, which will be held on September 17th.  Look for sign-up information soon.  Ramona Sampayan will be working with Desiree Conley and Melinda Mares, the previous sponsors, to insure a smooth transition to HCA sponsorship.  This is a very popular event, giving many of us an opportunity to clean out our garages (maybe make room for a car!) and make some extra money at the same time.  HCA is picking up all the expenses for this year.  In the future, we may be looking for a way to defray some of the cost.

Jim Hayes reported that the Golf Committee is working very hard to put on another successful charity golf tournament.  “Swing for Charity” will take place on September 25th and there is still space available.  There is a sign-up form attached to this message, and they are available at J & O’s as well.  Last year, we donated about $15,000 to Alternative Family services, which is the designated charity this year as well.

Jaunie Federowicz will be the chair for a new committee, the Family and Community Events Committee.  This  committee will be working on developing family oriented activities and events as well as overseeing the Holiday Lighting Contest, the Trash Committee (HCA sponsors trash pickup along Hwy 80 at McGary Rd), and communications (such as web articles).   Jaunie has done an excellent job this past year in chairing the Membership Committee, which will now be chaired by new board member, Jen Pollard.

National Night Out was a great success!  Eric Thompson, the general manager of the golf club reported that 360 people attended.  We’re very grateful to them for their generosity and to all those who participated.  HCA and HPOA both made donations to help with the cost of putting on this neighborhood block party.  Several people at the event expressed interest in a CPR and AED training class.  The last such class was in 2010 and we will be working on scheduling another in 2012.

The board also voted to join The Vallejo Chamber of Commerce.  It’s a good way for us to be more involved with the City of Vallejo and several board members have volunteered to attend Chamber events and represent Hiddenbrooke.   HCA also helped out the Vallejo Parade Association with a donation to help defray the expenses of putting on the annual 4th of July Parade, which was gratefully acknowledged with a nice thank you letter.
